The Maryland Society for Clinical Social Work, Inc., was established in 1983 as an outcome of several earlier meetings among clinical social workers who realized the need for further organization and advocacy for the profession. Impetus for founding the Clinical Society came about as the result of the increasing numbers of clinical social workers as well as the passage of the licensing and vendorship laws in the State of Maryland.

Since 1983, MSCSW has grown rapidly in terms of membership size and scope of influence with the development of a variety of activities to meet its mission.

From the beginning, MSCSW has maintained strong ties with the National Association of Social Workers-Maryland and a local consortium, The Maryland Legislative Council of Social Work Organizations. Our combined efforts have ensured professional standards and promoted the growth and development of clinical social work in Maryland.
